Lobbyists: New York falling behind on health insurance exchange
Syracuse, N.Y. — The American Cancer Society AARP New York and AARP say New York needs to speed up efforts to create a state health insurance exchange by passing a law creating a public authority or designating another entity to operate the exchange.

Health insurance exchanges are a key component of federal health care reform. Uninsured individuals and small businesses are supposed to be able to purchase affordable health insurance through the exchanges beginning Jan. 1, 2014. States can set up their own exchanges or use a federal exchange.
