“One Nation Working Together” March – October 2nd, Wash DC
September 12, 2010
[from Lisabeth Frarey]
Single Payer New York will be a sponsoring organization of the One Nation Working Together Rally in Washington, D.C. and is urging it’s members to participate. Single payer advocates will be on buses from Albany, Ithaca, Hudson Valley, and throughout NYS as well as throughout the country.
The Rochester Genesee Valley Labor Federation/AFL-CIO is organizing buses. If you are a union member, contact Aron Reina at RLCAFLCIO@aol.com or call 263-2650.
Metro Justice will have some seats on the bus, so if you are a single payer advocate, but not a union member, call Bryan Scrafford at Metro Justice 325-2560 to get a seat on the bus. Seats are $10.
Buses are leaving from Rochester Friday night and returning Saturday night (please check with Aron and Bryan for details).
If you drive and arrive early, single payer supporters are gathering from 6-8 pm Friday evening at Busboys & Poets at the corner of 5th and K Sts (1025 5th St NW). Go to the www.healthcare-now.org for more information.
Health Care Now, California Nurses, Physicians for a National Health Program and PDA are planning a meeting place for single payer advocates for the rally. Look for updates on their websites.
Medicare for All is part of “putting America back to work and pulling America back together.” As unemployment remains high, employee benefits continue to be chipped away, the private insurance industry continues to raise premiums, and the Congressional Deficit Commission looks to cuts in safety nets programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to balance the budget instead of bringing our troops home and asking the nation’s wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes, it is imperative we work together to provide jobs, health care, education, a clean, safe, and sustainable environment, and an economy in which we all have a decent standard of living.
